The AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP) is defined as a diverse collective of individuals united in anger and committed to ending AIDS through militant direct action.

Founded in 1988, ACT UP San Francisco remained a vocal presence through 2003. Encompassing issues such as animal rights, medical cannabis and AIDS funding accountability, ACT UP San Francisco was one of the only chapters to not receive money from the pharmaceutical industry.  In recent years, younger activists have continued under the banner of ACT UP San Francisco.

This website seeks to document the rich history of not only ACT UP San Francisco but also the radical queer protest movement of the 1980s and 1990s.

This website is the work of Todd Swindell who came out in ACT UP San Francisco in 1994. His other website is haroldnorse.com about the gay Beat poet Harold Norse.
